Millennium
As the centuries clock clicks down to
close,
At the end of millennium eve.
We look back at the past, then forward
in time
With dreams of the things we’ll achieve.
But as we take stock, of the lives that
we lead
Can we be proud of our goals ?
For the chasing of wealth and corporate
greed,
Is tearing away at our souls.
For what have we learnt, from the last
thousand years?
It would seem that it’s nothing at all.
The path that we tread sometimes fills
me with dread,
For it’s leading us straight for a fall.
On the streets of the world, as the revellers
dance
There are homeless, dying and poor.
Diseases to cure, the hungry to feed,
But we don’t give a dam anymore.
The rot has set in from right at the
top,
Our leaders example is weak.
Be it church, be it state, they’ve just
left it too late,
For it’s money and profit they seek.
Now as time ticks us by, this millennium
new,
Let’s look through the gloss and the
lies.
Forget all the greed and media hype,
Look at the world through fresh eyes.
Forget what your told and think for yourself,
Vote with an ethical stance.
So the next thousand years begin the
right way,
With some hope; for those folk with no
chance.
